Most petrol stations sell premium ‘high performance’ fuels yet there’s little or no performance difference for most standard cars.
The AA has said that for most, high performance fuels are unnecessarily pricey for regular use and there is no performance benefit to be had for everyday cars and everyday motoring. But if you’re keen to use them, the AA suggests using a premium fuel just once every 3 or 4 times per fill-up – just to keep the engine clean and efficient, then revert back to standard.
So for easy money saving, don’t fill up with the super fuels unless you have a sports car that you’ve been advised will actually benefit from using the premium fuels.
