Stand by for action! To celebrate the 50th anniversary of classic sci-fi children’s show Thunderbirds, a special convention is heading to Leicester this summer. It’s going to be F.A.B…

This year sees the Tracy brothers return to our screens, albeit with a slightly modern makeover, as Thunderbirds Are Go! takes off on ITV. The CGI version will see David Graham return to the role of Parker, and David will be appearing at the Andercon event at Leicester’s Athena in June.

Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s ‘Supermarionation’ shows, including Captain Scarlet, Stingray and Joe 90, will be celebrated at the event, hosted by the creators’ son Jamie Anderson.

Children of all ages (including us big kids) will love the exhibition of original models, puppet props and sets, as well as special screenings of Anderson hits past, present and future – and you’ll be able to meet some of the stars and production crew.

As it’s the 50th anniversary of Thunderbirds, you can be pretty certain that the focus will be on the Tracy brothers – old and new – and their efforts to save the world as International Rescue.

Speaking to the Leicester Mercury, Jamie said: “There will be things for fans of all ages. Conventions used to be just for geeks and people wouldn’t go if they didn’t think they were big enough fans.

“But they’re real family events now and at the convention in London last year we had three generations of the same family who were all fans.”

The Andercon takes place at Athena in Leicester on June 12-14. For more information, visit
