Even two days of biblical rain failed to dampen the spirits on 29th May at the third AvailableCar Charity Golf Day, held once again at Trent Lock Golf Club in Sawley, Long Eaton.
Torrential rain the day before and the threat of the same on the day did not deter the 16 teams of four who turned up at 9am sharp for their bacon butties and team briefing – and the fact that most players spent 30 minutes warming up on the driving range illustrated just how seriously they were taking the competition.
The tournament was a shotgun start, four-person Texas Scramble and got underway ay 10.30am sharp.
The structure proved to be an ideal format for the damp conditions as it allowed everyone to lose a ball, shank into the rough or splash into a lake, without the team being too harshly punished.
At the end of the round, teams trudged happily back to the clubhouse to be warmly greeted by the other competitors and even more warmly welcomed by a large carvery dinner which was generously prepared by Trent Lock Golf Club staff.
For the third year in a row, the winners of the tournament were first time winners – showing just how competitive the day is.
‘And the grand total raised is…. £5,260!’
Entry fees were counted, fines collected and raffle donations drawn and the total raised announced as £5,260, beating last years total by £1,200.
AvailableCar would like to thank all those who played, donated, supported and organised the third AvailableCar Charity Golf Day, and who helped to raise such a wonderful amount of money for Rainbows Children’s Hospice.
