Since 2009, AvailableCar stores in Sutton in Ashfield and Castle Donington have been fundraising for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People and this month we hit a fantastic milestone.

Thanks to the generosity of our customers as well as our staff organising fundraising activities such as marathons, golf days, fun runs, sponsored sky dives and cycling events, we’ve donated over £500,000 to the Loughborough-based charity.

For some time now, AvailableCar has been using a highly-successful fundraising scheme, which asks every customer at our branches to kindly add anything up to the value of £5 on to the price of their car. We then match the figure and all the money raised goes straight to the hospice.

As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, Rainbows was adopted by AvailableCar as it is such an incredibly important facility to so many families in the region.

The hospice is a place where children with life-limiting can find care and support and the incredible team of people at the hospice help relieve symptoms, improve quality of life and support parents and siblings through their bereavements and care for children until the end.

Paul Arscott, AvailableCar Operations Director, said: “Everyone at AvailableCar has been raising money for Rainbows for almost seven years now, so we are all delighted to see the figure reach the half a million pound mark.

“Our in-store donation scheme has been a key factor in our fundraising efforts, thanks to the generosity of our wonderful customers and our AvailableCar Directors and owners Graham and Alison Bell, who match every donation received. Almost all of our customers donate something, and for that we are extremely grateful as it makes such a huge difference to our fundraising figure.”

Kate Golding, Corporate Partnership Manager at Rainbows, said: “We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone at AvailableCar for their continued support over the last few years. Through a range of initiatives and fundraising activities, the management teams, staff and customers have gone above and beyond to help raise vital funds for the hospice.

“£500,000 is a huge milestone and we’re delighted to be able to celebrate this achievement with them. The money raised will help Rainbows provide care and support for children from across the East Midlands with terminal and life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families.”

We’ve been so impressed with this fundraising scheme, we now support children’s hospices and charities in all our car supermarket locations – our AvailableCar Leeds store now supports Martin House in West Yorkshire and the Cannock store supports Acorn’s for the West and South Midlands.

Graham Bell, AvailableCar Chairman, said: “Over the years, the money we have raised has paid for a full-time nurse at Rainbows, as well as help with the general running costs of the hospice, which are staggeringly expensive.

“This is a vital facility for many families in the same areas as our Sutton-In-Ashfield and Castle Donnington stores, so we hope to see our fundraising figure continue to grow for many more years to come.”
