Midlands used car retailers AvailableCar have been shouting about their excellent fundraising efforts this week, having raised an amazing £90,000 so far with hopes to raise £100,000 by January 2017 , for their adopted charity Acorns Children’s Hospice.
The store which opened in Cannock (on the A5 Waitling Street) in June 2013 decided to support the charity and its care for life limited and life threatened children and young people and support for their families across the Midlands.
For some time now, the AvailableCar Team have been using a highly successful fundraising scheme, which asks every customer at their Cannock branch to kindly add anything up to the value of £5 onto the price of their car. AvailableCar then match the figure and all the money raised, goes straight to Acorns and the work which takes place at its three Hospices based in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester and in the community.
Acorns has helped over 2470 children since 1988
Amanda Smallman, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Acorns, said: “On behalf of all the families who rely on Acorns for support we want to say a huge thank you to AvailableCar for such a significant amount. It costs us nearly £10 million every year to continue and we rely on the generosity of the local community for most of this amount, so we’re incredibly grateful to all the employees and customers who donated.”
Acorns Children’s Hospice offers a network of specialist palliative care for children and young people and their families, which includes respite, short breaks, emergency and end of life care.
In the last year, Acorns has supported over 830 children and more than 1,062 families, including those who are bereaved. Acorns is the only organisation in the West Midlands that provides this level of care while offering a range of support services for the whole family to help them cope at every stage of their child’s life and beyond into bereavement.
Every customer donation is matched by AvailableCar
Paul Arscott Available Car Operations Director said: “Raising money for charity is something we take very seriously at AvailableCar, we want all our employees to work together and do as much as they can for Acorns. All the AvailableCar Supermarkets support a local children’s charity in the hope we can make a small difference to something hugely important. Ultimately we would like to see every child and young person in the West Midlands with a life threatening condition receive the support and the care they need.
“I believe our in-store donation scheme has been a key success factor in our fundraising efforts, thanks to the generosity of our wonderful customers and the AvailableCar Directors and Owners Graham and Alison Bell, who match every donation received. All the money we raise goes straight to Acorns to try and support and expand their in-house respite and emergency services.”
AvailableCar are now planning on ensuring they come up with new employee events and continue their good work with the help of our customers, to reach the £100,000 milestone figure with their fundraising. As a business, since 2007 AvailableCar will have raised and donated (by January 2017) more than £700,000 to children’s charities nationally.
